VCAN-GABRA5 Fusion FISH Probe
The VCAN-GABRA5 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the VCAN and GABRA5 genes. The fusion of the VCAN and GABRA5 genes has been associated with Mesothelioma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

VCAN Gene Summary
This gene is a member of the aggrecan/versican proteoglycan family. The protein encoded is a large chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan and is a major component of the extracellular matrix. This protein is involved in cell adhesion, proliferation, proliferation, migration and angiogenesis and plays a central role in tissue morphogenesis and maintenance. Mutations in this gene are the cause of Wagner syndrome type 1. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2009]
Gene Name: Versican
Chromosome: CHR5: 82767492 -82878122
Locus: 5q14.2-q14.3
GABRA5 Gene Summary
GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain where it acts at GABA-A receptors, which are ligand-gated chloride channels. Chloride conductance of these channels can be modulated by agents such as benzodiazepines that bind to the GABA-A receptor. At least 16 distinct subunits of GABA-A receptors have been identified. Transcript variants utilizing three different alternative non-coding first exons have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: Gamma-aminobutyric Acid Type A Receptor Alpha5 Subunit
Chromosome: CHR15: 27111865 -27194357
Locus: 15q12
