TIMP1-EIF2AK2 Fusion FISH Probe
The TIMP1-EIF2AK2 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the TIMP1 and EIF2AK2 genes. The fusion of the TIMP1 and EIF2AK2 genes has been associated with Skin Cutaneous Melanoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

EIF2AK2 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a serine/threonine protein kinase that is activated by autophosphorylation after binding to dsRNA. The activated form of the encoded protein can phosphorylate translation initiation factor EIF2S1, which in turn inhibits protein synthesis. This protein is also activated by manganese ions and heparin. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
Gene Name: Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2 Alpha Kinase 2
Chromosome: CHR2: 37333698 -37384190
Locus: 2p22.2
TIMP1 Gene Summary
This gene belongs to the TIMP gene family. The proteins encoded by this gene family are natural inhibitors of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a group of peptidases involved in degradation of the extracellular matrix. In addition to its inhibitory role against most of the known MMPs, the encoded protein is able to promote cell proliferation in a wide range of cell types, and may also have an anti-apoptotic function. Transcription of this gene is highly inducible in response to many cytokines and hormones. In addition, the expression from some but not all inactive X chromosomes suggests that this gene inactivation is polymorphic in human females. This gene is located within intron 6 of the synapsin I gene and is transcribed in the opposite direction. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: TIMP Metallopeptidase Inhibitor 1
Chromosome: CHRX: 47441689 -47446190
Locus: Xp11.3
