ST8SIA1-FTO Fusion FISH Probe
The ST8SIA1-FTO Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the ST8SIA1 and FTO genes. The fusion of the ST8SIA1 and FTO genes has been associated with Brain Lower Grade Glioma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

ST8SIA1 Gene Summary
Gangliosides are membrane-bound glycosphingolipids containing sialic acid. Ganglioside GD3 is known to be important for cell adhesion and growth of cultured malignant cells. The protein encoded by this gene is a type II membrane protein that catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP-sialic acid to GM3 to produce gangliosides GD3 and GT3. The encoded protein may be found in the Golgi apparatus and is a member of glycosyltransferase family 29. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. Gene Name: ST8 Alpha-N-acetyl-neuraminide Alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 1
Chromosome: CHR12: 22346324 -22487648
Locus: 12p12.1
FTO Gene Summary
This gene is a nuclear protein of the AlkB related non-haem iron and 2-oxoglutarate-dependent oxygenase superfamily but the exact physiological function of this gene is not known. Other non-heme iron enzymes function to reverse alkylated DNA and RNA damage by oxidative demethylation. Studies in mice and humans indicate a role in nervous and cardiovascular systems and a strong association with body mass index, obesity risk, and type 2 diabetes. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2011]
Gene Name: FTO, Alpha-ketoglutarate Dependent Dioxygenase
Chromosome: CHR16: 53737874 -54148379
Locus: 16q12.2
