SPTBN1-MUC2 Fusion FISH Probe
The SPTBN1-MUC2 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the SPTBN1 and MUC2 genes. The fusion of the SPTBN1 and MUC2 genes has been associated with Colon Adenocarcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

MUC2 Gene Summary
This gene encodes a member of the mucin protein family. Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins produced by many epithelial tissues. The protein encoded by this gene is secreted and forms an insoluble mucous barrier that protects the gut lumen. The protein polymerizes into a gel of which 80% is composed of oligosaccharide side chains by weight. The protein features a central domain containing tandem repeats rich in threonine and proline that varies between 50 and 115 copies in different individuals. Downregulation of this gene has been observed in patients with Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2016]
Gene Name: Mucin 2, Oligomeric Mucus/gel-forming
Chromosome: CHR11: 1074874 -1104417
Locus: 11p15.5
SPTBN1 Gene Summary
Spectrin is an actin crosslinking and molecular scaffold protein that links the plasma membrane to the actin cytoskeleton, and functions in the determination of cell shape, arrangement of transmembrane proteins, and organization of organelles. It is composed of two antiparallel dimers of alpha- and beta- subunits. This gene is one member of a family of beta-spectrin genes. The encoded protein contains an N-terminal actin-binding domain, and 17 spectrin repeats which are involved in dimer formation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: Spectrin Beta, Non-erythrocytic 1
Chromosome: CHR2: 54683453 -54898583
Locus: 2p16.2
