SNAPIN-S100A1 Fusion FISH Probe
The SNAPIN-S100A1 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the SNAPIN and S100A1 genes. The fusion of the SNAPIN and S100A1 genes has been associated with Lung Adenocarcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.
** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use. Please note that both genes fall on the same chromosome and inter-chromosomal detection may be difficult to detect depending on the genes proximity to one another. Please consult our support staff before ordering this product to ensure that the probe can be designed to meet your specific needs.

S100A1 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may function in stimulation of Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release, inhibition of microtubule assembly, and inhibition of protein kinase C-mediated phosphorylation. Reduced expression of this protein has been implicated in cardiomyopathies. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: S100 Calcium Binding Protein A1
Chromosome: CHR1: 153600872 -153604513
Locus: 1q21.3
SNAPIN Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a coiled-coil-forming protein that associates with the SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion protein attachment protein receptor) complex of proteins and the BLOC-1 (biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles) complex. Biochemical studies have identified additional binding partners. As part of the SNARE complex, it is required for vesicle docking and fusion and regulates neurotransmitter release. The BLOC-1 complex is required for the biogenesis of specialized organelles such as melanosomes and platelet dense granules. Mutations in gene products that form the BLOC-1 complex have been identified in mouse strains that are models of Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2012]
