SCYL2 Gene Summary

The protein encoded by this gene associates with clathrin-coated complexes at the plasma membrane and with endocytic coated vesicles. The encoded protein phosphorylates the beta2 subunit of the plasma membrane adapter complex AP2 and interacts with clathrin, showing involvement in clathrin-dependent pathways between the trans-Golgi network and the endosomal system. In addition, this protein has a role in the Wnt signaling pathway by targeting frizzled 5 (Fzd5) for lysosomal degradation. This gene encodes a multi-domain protein that is predominantly expressed in brain and testis. This protein interacts with amyloid beta protein precursor (AbetaPP) and may have a role in normal brain development, and in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Expression of this gene has been shown to be elevated in patients with pre-B cell acute lymphocytic leukemia associated with t(1;19) translocation.
