PFKFB3-PALM2-AKAP2 Fusion FISH Probe
The PFKFB3-PALM2-AKAP2 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the PFKFB3 and PALM2-AKAP2 genes. The fusion of the PFKFB3 and PALM2-AKAP2 genes has been associated with Sarcoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

PFKFB3 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to a family of bifunctional proteins that are involved in both the synthesis and degradation of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate, a regulatory molecule that controls glycolysis in eukaryotes. The encoded protein has a 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase activity that catalyzes the synthesis of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate (F2,6BP), and a fructose-2,6-biphosphatase activity that catalyzes the degradation of F2,6BP. This protein is required for cell cycle progression and prevention of apoptosis. It functions as a regulator of cyclin-dependent kinase 1, linking glucose metabolism to cell proliferation and survival in tumor cells. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016]
Gene Name: 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3
Chromosome: CHR10: 6186842 -6277507
Locus: 10p15.1
PALM2-AKAP2 Gene Summary
PALM2-AKAP2 mRNAs are naturally occurring read-through products of the neighboring PALM2 and AKAP2 genes that belong to the paralemmin downstream gene (PDG) family. The significance of these read-through mRNAs and the function the resulting fusion protein products have not yet been determined. Naturally occurring mutations in this gene are associated with human height. [provided by RefSeq, May 2017]
