NELL2-MUC21 Fusion FISH Probe
The NELL2-MUC21 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the NELL2 and MUC21 genes. The fusion of the NELL2 and MUC21 genes has been associated with Sarcoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

NELL2 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein containing several von Willebrand factor C domains and epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domains. The encoded protein acts as a homotrimer and is found in the cytoplasm. Several variants encoding a few different isoforms exist, and at least one isoform appears to be a secreted protein. Studies in mouse suggest that this protein plays a role in neural cell growth and differentiation as well as in oncogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009]

MUC21 Gene Summary
This gene encodes a large membrane-bound glycoprotein which is a member of the mucin family. Mucins are O-glycosylated proteins that play an essential role in forming protective mucous barriers on epithelial surfaces. These proteins also play a role in intracellular signaling. The encoded protein contains an N-terminal signal sequence, an extracellular mucin domain, a stem domain, a transmembrane domain, and a C-terminal cytoplasmic tail domain. The mucin domain contains O-glycosylation sites and is polymorphic with isoforms containing a variable number of nonidentical proline-, threonine-, and serine-rich tandem repeats of 15 amino acids each. The aberrent expression of this gene is associated with lung adenocarcinoma. [provided by RefSeq, May 2017]
