MED23-RNF217 Fusion FISH Probe
The MED23-RNF217 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the MED23 and RNF217 genes. The fusion of the MED23 and RNF217 genes has been associated with Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.
** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use. Please note that both genes fall on the same chromosome and inter-chromosomal detection may be difficult to detect depending on the genes proximity to one another. Please consult our support staff before ordering this product to ensure that the probe can be designed to meet your specific needs.

MED23 Gene Summary
The activation of gene transcription is a multistep process that is triggered by factors that recognize transcriptional enhancer sites in DNA. These factors work with co-activators to direct transcriptional initiation by the RNA polymerase II apparatus. The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the CRSP (cofactor required for SP1 activation) complex, which, along with TFIID, is required for efficient activation by SP1. This protein is also a component of other multisubunit complexes e.g. thyroid hormone receptor-(TR-) associated proteins which interact with TR and facilitate TR function on DNA templates in conjunction with initiation factors and cofactors. This protein also acts as a metastasis suppressor. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012]
Gene Name: Mediator Complex Subunit 23
Chromosome: CHR6: 131895105 -131949363
Locus: 6q23.2
RNF217 Gene Summary
This protein encoded by this gene is a member of the RING1-IBR-RING24 (RBR) ubiquitin protein ligase family, and it belongs to a subfamily of these proteins that contain a transmembrane domain. This protein can interact with the HAX1 anti-apoptotic protein via its C-terminal RING finger motif, which suggests a role in apoptosis signaling. It is thought that deregulation of this gene can be a mechanism in leukemogenesis. Mutations in the region encoding the protein GXXXG motif, which appears to be necessary for protein self-association, have been found in human cancers. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016]
