FGD4-BICD1 Fusion FISH Probe
The FGD4-BICD1 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the FGD4 and BICD1 genes. The fusion of the FGD4 and BICD1 genes has been associated with Skin Cutaneous Melanoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.
** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use. Please note that both genes fall on the same chromosome and inter-chromosomal detection may be difficult to detect depending on the genes proximity to one another. Please consult our support staff before ordering this product to ensure that the probe can be designed to meet your specific needs.

BICD1 Gene Summary
This gene encodes an adaptor protein that belongs to the bicaudal D family of dynein cargo adaptors. The encoded protein acts as an intracellular cargo transport cofactor that regulates the microtubule-based loading of cargo onto the dynein motor complex. It also controls dynein motor activity and coordination. It has a domain architecture consisting of coiled-coil domains at the N- and C-termini that are highly conserved in other family members. Naturally occurring mutations in this gene are associated with short telomere length and emphysema. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2017]
Gene Name: BICD Cargo Adaptor 1
Chromosome: CHR12: 32260184 -32531141
Locus: 12p11.21
FGD4 Gene Summary
This gene encodes a protein that is involved in the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton and cell shape. This protein contains an actin filament-binding domain, which together with its Dbl homology domain and one of its pleckstrin homology domains, can form microspikes. This protein can activate MAPK8 independently of the actin filament-binding domain, and it is also involved in the activation of CDC42 via the exchange of bound GDP for free GTP. The activation of CDC42 also enables this protein to play a role in mediating the cellular invasion of Cryptosporidium parvum, an intracellular parasite that infects the gastrointestinal tract. Mutations in this gene can cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 4H (CMT4H), a disorder of the peripheral nervous system. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2015]
