EGFR-GNS Fusion FISH Probe
The EGFR-GNS Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the EGFR and GNS genes. The fusion of the EGFR and GNS genes has been associated with Glioblastoma Multiforme. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

EGFR Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is a member of the protein kinase superfamily. This protein is a receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family. EGFR is a cell surface protein that binds to epidermal growth factor. Binding of the protein to a ligand induces receptor dimerization and tyrosine autophosphorylation and leads to cell proliferation. Mutations in this gene are associated with lung cancer. Gene Name: Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor
Chromosome: CHR7: 55086724 -55275031
Locus: 7p11.2
GNS Gene Summary
The product of this gene is a lysosomal enzyme found in all cells. It is involved in the catabolism of heparin, heparan sulphate, and keratan sulphate. Deficiency of this enzyme results in the accumulation of undegraded substrate and the lysosomal storage disorder mucopolysaccharidosis type IIID (Sanfilippo D syndrome). Mucopolysaccharidosis type IIID is the least common of the four subtypes of Sanfilippo syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: Glucosamine (N-acetyl)-6-sulfatase
Chromosome: CHR12: 65107221 -65153226
Locus: 12q14.3
