EEF2-EIF2AK2 Fusion FISH Probe
The EEF2-EIF2AK2 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the EEF2 and EIF2AK2 genes. The fusion of the EEF2 and EIF2AK2 genes has been associated with Stomach Adenocarcinoma, and Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma And Endocervical Adenocarcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.
** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use.

EEF2 Gene Summary
This gene encodes a member of the GTP-binding translation elongation factor family. This protein is an essential factor for protein synthesis. It promotes the GTP-dependent translocation of the nascent protein chain from the A-site to the P-site of the ribosome. This protein is completely inactivated by EF-2 kinase phosporylation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: Eukaryotic Translation Elongation Factor 2
Chromosome: CHR19: 3976053 -3985461
Locus: 19p13.3
EIF2AK2 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a serine/threonine protein kinase that is activated by autophosphorylation after binding to dsRNA. The activated form of the encoded protein can phosphorylate translation initiation factor EIF2S1, which in turn inhibits protein synthesis. This protein is also activated by manganese ions and heparin. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
Gene Name: Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2 Alpha Kinase 2
Chromosome: CHR2: 37333698 -37384190
Locus: 2p22.2
