CAPN1-EIF2AK2 Fusion FISH Probe
The CAPN1-EIF2AK2 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the CAPN1 and EIF2AK2 genes. The fusion of the CAPN1 and EIF2AK2 genes has been associated with Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

CAPN1 Gene Summary
The calpains, calcium-activated neutral proteases, are nonlysosomal, intracellular cysteine proteases. The mammalian calpains include ubiquitous, stomach-specific, and muscle-specific proteins. The ubiquitous enzymes consist of heterodimers with distinct large, catalytic subunits associated with a common small, regulatory subunit. This gene encodes the large subunit of the ubiquitous enzyme, calpain 1. Several transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2010]
Gene Name: Calpain 1
Chromosome: CHR11: 64948685 -64979477
Locus: 11q13.1
EIF2AK2 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a serine/threonine protein kinase that is activated by autophosphorylation after binding to dsRNA. The activated form of the encoded protein can phosphorylate translation initiation factor EIF2S1, which in turn inhibits protein synthesis. This protein is also activated by manganese ions and heparin. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
Gene Name: Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2 Alpha Kinase 2
Chromosome: CHR2: 37333698 -37384190
Locus: 2p22.2
