BAALC-UBR5 Fusion FISH Probe
The BAALC-UBR5 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the BAALC and UBR5 genes. The fusion of the BAALC and UBR5 genes has been associated with Skin Cutaneous Melanoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.
** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use. Please note that both genes fall on the same chromosome and inter-chromosomal detection may be difficult to detect depending on the genes proximity to one another. Please consult our support staff before ordering this product to ensure that the probe can be designed to meet your specific needs.

UBR5 Gene Summary
This gene encodes a progestin-induced protein, which belongs to the HECT (homology to E6-AP carboxyl terminus) family. The HECT family proteins function as E3 ubiquitin-protein ligases, targeting specific proteins for ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. This gene is localized to chromosome 8q22 which is disrupted in a variety of cancers. This gene potentially has a role in regulation of cell proliferation or differentiation. Gene Name: Ubiquitin Protein Ligase E3 Component N-recognin 5
Chromosome: CHR8: 103264501 -103424917
Locus: 8q22.3
BAALC Gene Summary
This gene was identified by gene expression studies in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The gene is conserved among mammals and is not found in lower organisms. Tissues that express this gene develop from the neuroectoderm. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different proteins have been described for this gene; however, some of the transcript variants are found only in AML cell lines. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: BAALC, MAP3K1 And KLF4 Binding
Chromosome: CHR8: 104152920 -104242533
Locus: 8q22.3
