ASAH2-SGMS1 Fusion FISH Probe
The ASAH2-SGMS1 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the ASAH2 and SGMS1 genes. The fusion of the ASAH2 and SGMS1 genes has been associated with Stomach Adenocarcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.
** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use. Please note that both genes fall on the same chromosome and inter-chromosomal detection may be difficult to detect depending on the genes proximity to one another. Please consult our support staff before ordering this product to ensure that the probe can be designed to meet your specific needs.

ASAH2 Gene Summary
Ceramidases (EC 3.5.1.23), such as ASAH2, catalyze hydrolysis of the N-acyl linkage of ceramide, a second messenger in a variety of cellular events, to produce sphingosine. Sphingosine exerts both mitogenic and apoptosis-inducing activities, and its phosphorylated form functions as an intra- and intercellular second messenger (see MIM 603730) (Mitsutake et al., 2001 [PubMed 11328816]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]
Gene Name: N-acylsphingosine Amidohydrolase 2
Chromosome: CHR10: 51946999 -52008370
Locus: 10q11.23
SGMS1 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is predicted to be a five-pass transmembrane protein. This gene may be predominately expressed in brain. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: Sphingomyelin Synthase 1
Chromosome: CHR10: 52065344 -52383737
Locus: 10q11.23
