AFAP1-AKR1C1 Fusion FISH Probe
The AFAP1-AKR1C1 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the AFAP1 and AKR1C1 genes. The fusion of the AFAP1 and AKR1C1 genes has been associated with Brain Lower Grade Glioma, and Brain Lower Grade Glioma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

AKR1C1 Gene Summary
This gene encodes a member of the aldo/keto reductase superfamily, which consists of more than 40 known enzymes and proteins. These enzymes catalyze the conversion of aldehydes and ketones to their corresponding alcohols by utilizing NADH and/or NADPH as cofactors. The enzymes display overlapping but distinct substrate specificity. This enzyme catalyzes the reaction of progesterone to the inactive form 20-alpha-hydroxy-progesterone. This gene shares high sequence identity with three other gene members and is clustered with those three genes at chromosome 10p15-p14. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Gene Name: Aldo-keto Reductase Family 1 Member C1
Chromosome: CHR10: 5005453 -5020158
Locus: 10p15.1
AFAP1 Gene Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a Src binding partner. It may represent a potential modulator of actin filament integrity in response to cellular signals, and may function as an adaptor protein by linking Src family members and/or other signaling proteins to actin filaments. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008]
Gene Name: Actin Filament Associated Protein 1
Chromosome: CHR4: 7760439 -7941653
Locus: 4p16.1
