FUS/ERG Fusion FISH Probe

Our FUS/ERG fusion probe is designed to detect fusions between FUS and ERG. The probe comes labeled in orange and green, but can be customized to meet your needs.

Gene Background: FUS encodes an RNA-binding protein that monitors RNA splicing, while ERG encodes a transcription factor of the ETS oncogene superfamily.1 FUS/ERG fusion generates a chimeric oncogene with the N-terminal domain of FUS and the ETS motif-DNA-binding domain of ERG.2 The fusion is found in about 1% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients.2 Because ERG has been shown to form a homologous fusion with the EWS gene in Ewing sarcoma (ES), it’s been hypothesized that FUS/ERG fusion drives AML progression in much the same way as EWS/ERG in ES – that is, by acting as a transcriptional activator that contributes to overexpression of various oncogenes.1

Gene Summary

This gene encodes a multifunctional protein component of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) complex. The hnRNP complex is involved in pre-mRNA splicing and the export of fully processed mRNA to the cytoplasm. This protein belongs to the FET family of RNA-binding proteins which have been implicated in cellular processes that include regulation of gene expression, maintenance of genomic integrity and mRNA/microRNA processing. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Defects in this gene result in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis type 6. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
