Empire Genomics LLC has increased its network of international distributors.

The Buffalo-based global molecular diagnostics company, which specializes in oncology products and clinical services, sells and ships directly to customers worldwide. Distributors provide detailed knowledge of local dynamics and logistics needs. The company now has distributors that span 29 companies in 23 countries.

Outside its U.S. operations, the company’s international presence included primarily Korea and Italy.

Empire Genomics President Anthony Johnson said that the primary objective of increasing the distribution network is to provide better customer service through product education.

“We now have more of a robust network, which we have been growing and cultivating,” Johnson said. “Those in the network will provide better service to our international customers, and be trained by our staff.”

Johnson said that when shipping to countries like China and India, it can take up to seven days for a product to go through customs and a supply chain. However, the new distributors should be able to shave time from that process.

Increasing the distribution network was part of a strategy devised earlier this year when Empire Genomics purchased London, Ont.-based molecular re-agent company ID Labs. At the time, Johnson said that the acquisition aligned with Empire Genomics’ corporate strategy to complement their clinical service lab and customers. He also said it would broaden their distribution network.

Johnson said that Empire Genomics recently hired a marketing staff member, and plans to add more as a result of the increase in distributors.
